Ace Your Restaurant Health Inspection with A&K Blasch Pty Ltd Cleaning Professionals

09 January 2023

Are the hand sinks sparkling, the grease trap clean, and the kitchen spotless? There is a good possibility that a health inspection is approaching if these concerns keep you up at night. But it doesn’t have to be that demanding. Annual health inspections give you, as a restaurant owner, a complete awareness of your establishment’s security and hygienic conditions. A health inspection of your restaurant should never fail.

The good news is that you can remain ahead of the game and be ready when an inspector from the health department enters your restaurant. Here are some tips to make sure you and your team ace your health report.

Food Handling

All food must be properly received, stored, presented, served, and disposed of in your restaurant. It must be delivered at the proper temperature and maintained there for a maximum of two hours (under 5 degrees Celsius for milk and meat, for example). The packaging is another consideration. Make sure the container you’re storing your food in is compliant because some materials are prohibited from use in food storage. The food handling checklist also includes checking that food that needs to be thrown away is identified and segregated from regular stock, that food is thawed properly, and that self-serve bars are supervised and shielded from sneezes.

Health and Hygiene

All kitchen personnel must receive proper training in food hygiene in any restaurant that serves food. A person should avoid the kitchen for 48 hours if they are ill, especially if they are experiencing vomiting or diarrhoea.

The safety inspector checks for kitchen employees wearing clean attire, staff coughing or acting noticeably ill, and chefs and cooks using utensils to prevent unnecessary contact with food that has already been prepared.

Cleanliness and Sanitation

You should set the bar high for cleanliness in your kitchen, especially in areas where food will be touched. The growth and spread of the bacteria that cause food poisoning are prevented by cleaning and sanitizing. Additionally, it shields food against contamination by rodents, cockroaches, and other pests. When it’s safe to do so, clean everything completely at the end of each working day using water-based cleaning products. Ensure food is stored correctly and trash is disposed of.
